Can't find my favorites

So I have the public server list but my favorite server list has vanished. The whole black box is even gone. No words or anything. I must have done something wrong. Please help!

the favorites are written to this file: "somefolder\minetest\client\serverlist\favoriteservers.txt"

but the contents are only shown if the public server list is unchecked. If the list does not exist, for example sometimes with a new installation of minetest, it will be created after a first server has been visited.

Maybe you deleted the old version to update. By doing this, you lost your favorite list.
Dig in the trash to find the "favoriteservers.txt" file again.

No, I just tried finding a private server from someone that I know and I typed in the port number and the black box disappeared with all of the favorites.
I did not have an older version of Minetest on this computer, this was the first one. I haven't messed with the files at all either.
