MineTest in Appstore?

by minetestcr » Tue Jun 02, 2015 16:02

Hello, someone asked me about minetest for iphone, I thought it was improbable, but I still searched and found this:

https://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/minetest./id717384883?mt=8

Is it official? or developed by someone in this community? It doesn't mention C55... Will it connect to a minetest server?

That's not official, AFAIK.

It's not official and it's illegal, as the source code is not published.

LGPL Code cannot be used on Google play or iOS appstores.

"Mac OS X and iOS even fundamentally rely on GPL/LGPL software (e.g. gcc and many more), so Apple is enjoying the freedom yet it is denying its users the same freedom. As for licenses that the App Store is compatible with, you will need to go with the very permissive licenses like BSD, MIT, Apache, or public domain."

I have seen GPL and LGPL apps on Google Play. As for the App Store, I think LGPL is allowed, and if you use the GPL, you can add an exception statement to your software (if contributors agree).

Is anyone aware of more unofficial third-party redistributions and even rebrandings or trivial forks? (No sophisticated forks like Freeminer or Voxelands).
Maybe a list of all those “clones” may come in handy. My guess is that there could be even more stuff like that in several app stores.

So far, we have one entry on the list:
:D

Cool, but is the world resettable? I suppose it isn't.

If I understand correctly, all those Minetest forks are mostly a port to mobile with a certain subgame pre-installed. It looks chaotic to me. Some interesting stuff is here. Siberia Craft? Why is this not in Subgame Releases?! :-(
