What is the difference between Members & Registered Users?

by stoneminer » Fri Nov 27, 2015 20:16

Hi,

I don't know if this may seem like a simple question, but I have often viewed profiles in which the user is in two groups: "Members" and "Registered users". I have also viewed some in which the user is only in the "Registered users" group, like myself. What is a Member, and how does it differ from a Registered user?

It just one of the many basic feature, phpBB has (and some other forum scripts).

But the registered member is the group. The member you see, under the avatar is the rank title. The ranks work towards posts in Vanilla phpBB case. The other ranks you see are, Group based.

Mostly, ranks and groups define the forum, privs like posting, reading and so on. Should try hosting your own phpBB, for full on details.
I'm a Transgender no shame about it.
I prefer to be considered as a "Girl/Lady/Miss/Madam/Female" for now on.

What I mean is, I sometimes view people's actual profiles (like when you click on a person's name and there is his profile). The dropdown box that says "groups", I click it and sometimes it says, "Member" and "Registered user". Other people just are "Registered users". And I have also noticed that Members and Registered users are seperate groups. I understand that when I view someone's post, it usually just says "Member" and not "Registered user". But it does that for people whose profiles just say, "Registered user". What is a "Member"?

i found this in my profile:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all

Members
This is a closed group, new members can only join upon invitation of a group leader.

i am also just a registered user and not a member.
i have over 350 posts now, so i am not a newbie anymore ...

I agree with firefox, I think it is related to the post count.

@Sware I see on your profile that you are not only registered user, you are an official Member. Do you remember how that happened? Or were you automatically a Member when you joined?

Because I noticed, in the list of Members they stop at April 2014. Maybe after that everyone automatically was changed to registered users and from then on, after each person registered, they were known as "registered users", and not "members".

hm... my little profile next to my posts syas "Member", but on my User Control Panel i am only a registered user and not part of the "Member" group.
when i check the the group members, there are many with only 1 or less than 5 posts and some with more than 100 posts in both groups, so i guess the membership is not related to post counts.

the newest member of the "Member" group joined in April 2014 and has 7 posts.
the newest member in the "Registered User" group joined today and has 1 post.

maybe the "Member" group belongs to the old forum software and was changed to "Registered User" when the new forum got active.

although with the current descriotion "This is a closed group, new members can only join upon invitation of a group leader." it appears to be just as special as the "Developers" group.
so, is this it a special privilege to be a "Member" or is it just an older term for "Registered User"?
