Heybye44's most recent header looks interesting. I don't like the contrast of the colors, however, because it is not easy on the eyes. I also don't think the Minetest Game logo fits well into this.
Hint: The icon is also available as SVG, so you could use it. But maybe it's best to don't put the icon at all into the header. What do other people think?

Hello there. To answer the original question, I love the current logo and the one suggested. I do think that the Minetest logo has become a symbol of the game however. Changing it so late in development could throw away the image that it had established. So I guess I really think the logo needs to Not change. (No offence in the least, though. I love the suggested logo, it's metro, modern, intuitive, and elegant!) I just don't think that such a drastic change in the game's main identification is called for at this point :) ).

Oh, and to fit with the theme, I spent some time creating a spin-off of the original. My goal was to make it more Lubuntu 14 -- more Windows 10 -- or more Chrome OS 30-whatever -- essentially, more "metro". The spin-off has no stroke lines and new shading on the sides.

I like the standard logo but I do think that it doesn't show off much of minetest's capability.
Perhaps some other decorations than just tree and cactus. I do agree that 'Minetest' sounds too undeveloped and clone-like for a version 1.0 release.

If you want a logo which is buildable, why not just make it a node or mesh?

Minetest is a really terrible name, but it is here to stay :/

I don't like the idea of the Minetest title being blocky or pixellated; it's not aesthetically pleasing. I think the Minetest title should be just as clean and as high-resolution as the icon. It should have rounded letters, with a solid white fill and a light grey outline to match the style of the icon.

I like the rounded letters bit but it should have variable resolution to fit with different themes.

Is anyone interested in drawing a new text logo showing the text “Minetest Game”? It will be used as the header image in the main menu.
We still need a new text logo for Minetest Game (formerly known as “minetest_game”, it has been renamed recently).

PilzAdam suggested that the new logo should be based on this image:

Most people like the currant icon better than any suggestions, and I think it fits fine.

It's easily changed, uppercase A looks like that, lowercase looks like the rest of the chars
There is another font I found that had a "crumbly" look, but there was no license with it so I didn't use it.
