If I try and create a new world for single player or LAN, the console starts and then fails with connection timed out.
I have multiple NIC's installed and also use a VPN for web access. If I disable the VPN the single player launches and connects fine.
I've tried editing the server conf to bind the IP address to my local IP 192.xxx but it doesn't help. I can only create a single player game or LAN game through the GUI if I disable my VPN.
I can create a dedicated server bound to the 192.xxx IP address and launch it from the command prompt. Then, I can load another instance of Minetest from another folder and connect to the server with the 192.xxx IP.
Any ideas on how to solve this so that I can just load Minestest and play single player?

bind your server to 0.0.0.0, that will make it listen on all interfaces, including localhost.
