Not working on Ubuntu(Linux)

I am new to this game and, after i finished installing this game,(which i may have done wrong) i decided to play.so i click on the icon to start the game, and i reach the start up screen. I enter my username and password, then i enter an address for a server. the server works fine, but when i try to leave the server box blank, to host my own game offline, the game just closes. I was thinking about this a bit, an i was thinking that my installation was a bit iffy, and i might need to reinstall it, but i cant think of a way besides the way i did, does anyone know the awnser to my problem, or a wget command for the terminal i can use to properly install the game?

How do i turn on debug mode, and how do i find the debug.txt? sorry, ive never debugged anything before

you must not turn on the gebug mode
the debug.txt is in your minetest folder (linux: ~/.minetest)

Guys, my mother uses Ubuntu and she doesn't know anything about debugging and such.
GNU/Linux is not only for nerds and geeks anymore. :)
