How do you generate map?

by CalumMc » Tue Dec 27, 2011 17:36

I'm running a windows (yes, but I can't use linux on that old box, crap graphics card) server, soon to be public private server. I have read that there is a script for generating the map, how can I get this script and use it on windows?
Thanks!

If it's only a server, it doesn't need anything from the graphics card.

EDIT: on topic: by "generating" the map, do you mean running the terrain generator outside of minetest (I don't think that's currently possible)? Or rendering the map to an image (that's util/minetestmapper.py, but works only until minetest 0.3.1, not 0.4-dev)?

Generating a .png map on 0.3.1 with the minetestmapper.py. Also I need to be able to use a screen on the server for other reasons.

I have GMA500, there is a workingish driver on ubuntu but it fails to boot on my computer anyway. I can't boot suse because it gives a no CD drive error even though I am installing via USB. Overall Windows XP is the most stable OS that I can run. I use different Linux distros on all my other computers though.

CalumMc, Lol my pc has "Nvidia GeForce MX4 4000" And is outdated... BUT If you would use archlinux you could go to a home page which has downgraded packages of everything. And there you could get your old driver. So dont give me shit about old pc's :D

I might try that, or just put up with 800x600. It is a crap computer, best FPS I get with minetest is about 7! Its not my only computer though: I'm using 64bit fedora on a machine with... AMD Radeon HD 6320. Still nothing compared to all your gaming machines.

BTW, I found the minetestmapper.py on github eventually.
