Take a look at Mesecons.

Pressure plates are added using minetest's redstone: mesecons: http://minetest.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=628
I think there is a way for doors to be opened by pressure plates, but you need the doors+ mod i think :)

Actually you just need to download the Doors Extension from mesecons.tk (--> Extensions --> Download Doors Extension) If possible I will add support for the default doors.

Yea, I have mesecons in my server and just now experiementing with them.
I also have the Home Decor mode.

Now when I install the doors plus...do I need to remove the default:doors? Or just install it and restart server?

Just install doors plus and restart the server :) Also keep expirementing with mesecons, the possibilitys are endless!

Now there is no more need to install an exentsion. The doors mod in minetest_game is supported.
