Server hosting..?

So I'm a little confused on how you go about paying for a server to be hosted for you. How do you go about this? Do you need a special type of server hosting? How much does it cost?

If you can't host it at home, you need at least a VPS. I'm running a server on a $3.50 / month VPS from http://www.buyvm.net/ For $3.50 / month I can't complain, it's usually just me and a few friends and it performs pretty good. They seem to have a really solid network.

I switched from a more powerful VPS with http://www.burst.net/ for $12 / month and I did have to remove mobf when I switched servers, but if you aren't running a ton of mods a cheap VPS will work fine.

VPS are often disappointing in terms of CPU power (blame the people compiling Gentoo or such on their VPSes), but dedis are very expensive, so unless you want to host a server at home (it is cost-efficient, but to host a large amount of players [more than 10] you'll need at least 1mbit upload).
