Moving from Minecraft

by notthenewsreader » Tue Sep 23, 2014 19:05

Hi guys. I am not trying to start a flamewar or cause any disharmony at all, I simply want to know what mods are required to make minetest as close as possible to the current version of minecraft. I have every intention of moving to minetest and I am trying to convert my friends to it as well.

Many thanks

You could try this game: viewtopic.php?id=2589 (It's a bit outdated though)

Honestly, I think you will be disappointed if you try to make Minetest be a subsitute Minecraft. Minetest comes with its own set of strengths and weaknesses. The biggest strength of Minetest over Minecraft is that it is easy to write and install mods. Thus you can and should experiment with all kinds of Mods with Minetest. Installing a Mod for MC is a much bigger hassle, and then it breaks as soon as a new version is released. Mods are a snap to install with Minetest, and they don't break because they use the modding API.

Also I enjoy using the servers in Minetest better than MC servers. It is easier to log on to servers, some allow you to interact immediately. Also many of the servers are less built up. They just seem less formal, so you can log on and just have some fun.

Here’s a new user coming from Minecraft, too :)

I play Carbone, use the Survival ModPack and added the Home Decor modpack.

Minetest can’t substitute Minecraft but with that it’s an awesome replacement :)

Also check out this thread.

We're hoping to utilize all (or as many as possible) of the items in any MC resource pack in Minetest.
