There is a new game called Terasology, which is almost better than Minetest! I don't think it has a Multiplayer mode yet...
Take a look at it, and tell me what you think!

No, no, no! I will still play Minetest! You don't have to worry about that! ;)

How is this an emergency? There's plenty of other MC clones out there that are probably better then Minetest. It isn't a competition, and shouldn't ever be one unless Celeron decides to sell Minetest.

I didn't really mean an ''Emergency!''
Well, you're right! I shouldn't be so serious. As you said, this isn't a competition.
Making a game, is harder then what it looks, and Celeron takes his time...
Sorry.

I like that attitude. ''I hope Minetest will one day look like that.'' :)
Great you like it! Haven't tried it yet...

if you look at mythruna all its missing are some lower end graphics and user content integration plus some fixes and such

I think minetest has the most potential at the moment. The big difference is that minetest has good a good modding api and already a lot of mods out there that improve gameplay. All these games have fancy graphics, but that's it! There often is no crafting and so on.
And another point for minetest: It is written in C++ which makes the game a lot faster!

Teraslogy looks currently only better because its using shaders for light effects or motion blur. Some shaders, more 3D stuff and a better GUI design and MT will look exactly so great.

anyone noticing how close we are to achieving most of those

Ihave played it and it is written in java but it moves super slowly it lags a lot so I will still prefer minetest and I like minetest more because it can run in old pc's and those cubes that hunt you dont stop anoying!! :/ and also it does not have crafting.
note: anither wich I think it looks better than terasology is mythruna and it is still on pre-alpha too and has more features (it looks I have not played it well) so terasology -1 for me

After playing with this one, I gotta say I'm in love with it. It kinda hurts to hear that it's not a competition, since competition encourages people to make their stuff better then the other. :(
Thanks for the links, I'll hold on to them. I think I might switch to this if Minetest doesn't move it along.

Minetest is the only block game who runs very well with the integrated chipset of my laptop. (I have an Nvidia card but Optimus is a mess on Linux)
Mythruna and Terasology are good but the can't run fast as Minetest. An advantage of Minetest is the engine, it's based on Irrlicht wich is a very famous and accessible C++ engine with a real community.
Another advantage of Minetest is the clear licence in all of parts of the game. Mythruna is a Pay to play licence when it's released but (IMHO) Terasology core have a better (permissive) licence than Minetest. The only problem and it's not very big of Terasology is the textures under a non commercial licence it's not a pertinent choice for a game.

For an unknown reason bumblebee doesn't work on my laptop.
I never heard something about ironhide, maybe it work, thanks for the tip.

I will check it out!
By the way, doesn't Terasology work on my PC. Because I have integrated graphics... It looks so good, I wanna try it! ;(
[EDIT] I have now renamed the thread to ''Terasology {MAIN THREAD}. So it won't start any fights about which one's the best...
[ANOTHER EDIT] Nope... Mythruna didn't work either! I really need to buy a new computer... *sigh* :'(

I'm using Linux, Manic Digger is for Windows, we can run it via wine but with lame perfs compared to Minetest. Also the couple wine + integrated chipset sucks a lot. With minetest there is no problem.
I like Minetest because it's a game for all, no matter configuration and OS you using. :)

i saw it some time ago and here's what i think: terasology is a bunch of interesting features, which MT should have, but that's it. not more than a bunch of features. bunch of features compiled together is not a game. MT and MC are complete games. Terasology (and 95% of other mc clones) is not.

Yep. I tried it and it looks realy nice, but it has no gameplay.

It's only pre-alpha, of course it isnt highly developed. I Downloaded it and it is still fun even though its undeveloped. And it runs great on my laptop (which is high end in everything except its vidcard (intel hd 4000)) and minetest has some weird bugs on it (sometimes worlds dont load, sometimes it wont generate/load terrain, sometimes objects cant be removed, I can't get sound to work, etc.)
Overall i think it is a great engine but not exactly a game. its still fun to build stuff and play with the pretty graphics.
[EDIT] it also has waaaaaay more blocks than default minetest (dont get me wrong, i like minetest also)

Terasology is #2 on the MineCraft-inspired games list for me (#1 is of course MineTest). Its advantage is that it has amazing graphics and some great features which MineTest doesn't have yet. Its disadvantage is the lack of items and things you can do, modding support and other features. I consider it a demo currently. It's also written in java... nothing wrong with that but I find it more consistent for a serious 3D project to be programmed in something like C++ or C#.
I'm already planning to try implementing two of the most important features Terasology has in MineTest, which are post-processing effects and BulletX physics. But this will come later on (especially the second), as for now my focus is on implementing animated 3D models which are nearly done. My aim here will be to have optional shader support for visuals like what we see in Terasology, plus dynamic lighting. Thankfully we use Irrlicht :)
Overall I agree Terasology is also a very good project, and I hope it will get far too. I second the idea that there's no competition... it's just another FOSS project with its own system and features and style. However, I don't believe it's anywhere near MineTest's level of completion, because despite the outstanding graphics it has nothing to do in-world. Same as Manic Digger which was basically a reduced version of MineCraft from this point of view last time I checked.

i wonder why it would be on #2 then. but ok, this statement i so accurate, anyway, i just wanted to point out this one sentence.

Because no other MineCraft clone I know of has any gameplay either. Except Cubelands perhaps (and another one who's name I forgot), but for some reason I was never into those and still prefer watching a project like Terasology evolve (and of course ours). They're not open-source either, and I have little interest in closed-source software. MineTest is the only good project I know which has a lot of items already (via mods), crafting, multiplayer on top of all that, and other features that actually make it fun. Reason Terasology is #2 in my list is its fantastic graphics and physics mostly. I guess #3 would be Manic Digger... or Ace Of Spades though I never tried it.

yeah, now that you mention it, not so much good mc clones generally... i agree on that. but lords of uberdark would be my preference. have you heard of it? i think this one would be a decent project as well.

I think I seen a video. It's a game like MC but with smooth voxels (marching cubes) right? Been wanting something like that for a while... wonder it that's one thing MineTest might also be getting :P But as far as I know, that is also a demo, and there's not much you can do except looking at what's been done so far (which is pretty nice).

yes, sounds like it. the result so far is pretty impressive (0.43v, i think? (how ironic, i just noticed O_o)). but mt is my absolute favourite for the time :)
