FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

I can't seem to get the hang of mods and texture packs! Can someone go throught downloading them to Windows step by step?

And how do you download more than one mod?

first you download the mod then extract the mod to your data/mods folder where it says all the default legacy and thing like that stick it in there once you stuck it in your good start playing!
