Compile question

by slopsbucket » Sun Nov 30, 2014 00:32

When I compile from latest source I get strange shadows and funky lighting underground.

This doesn't happen with the official precompiled binaries or with C55's version, only when I compile it myself. I have shaders and smooth_lighting enabled so I must be missing something else somewhere in there. Any suggestions?

I'm trying to bisect this issue at the moment

This is not an issue with how you're compiling. I've filed a bug report here:
https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/1887

This is good to know. I was hesitant to run my autoupdate script when I saw this.

Thanks for the response Zeno. I tried to reproduce the torch problem you were having and couldn't do it. Maybe the version I'm running is just old enough. I'm running Celeron55's version downloaded on 20th of November.

I did notice that the new version has different textures (which I don't like), could this be part of the problem?

On a side note - I've just discovered Jungles and Dungeons and I really like them.

Performance stats:

Intel Z series chipset
Ivybridge Quad core 3.2 Ghz
8 Gb Ram @ 1600 Mhz
Built in intel 4000 graphics (this is built in to the CPU so performance should be poor)
Ubuntu 14.04 Cinnamon desktop (gnome has become that slow and resource hungry that it can no longer be used)

50 - 60 fps undergound
40 - 50 fps outside
processors working at around 50%
Temperatures get up to 55 degrees (but I live in the tropics, room temp is 33, humidity @ 90%)
about 800 Mb ram gets used by Minetest but when closed only 400 Mb gets freed back up.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Update:

playing around looking for a downloadable version of minetestc55 I found this:

https://launchpad.net/~damien-moore/+ar ... /+packages

Damien Moore's version of Minetest 0.4.10 for Ubuntu.

It compiled and played perfectly with no wierd lighting effects.

Maybe comparing the two will help narrow down the problem.

No. I was wrong, just had to move to a new area and wierd lighting was back. Aahhh. Such is life.
Cheers,

Andrew.

Thanks slopsbucket. The issue has been identified and it's a simple fix (should be fixed pretty soon I imagine).

Thanks for letting us know! :)

Thanks for the feedback Zeno.

Is there any way to tell when the problem is fixed? I've been reading through the GitHub and haven't noticed anything about it yet.

It's not terribly important, I'm just trying to put together a completely stand alone version for a few people who don't have the internet so sorting out dependancy issues is going to keep me busy for a while.

Cheers,

Andrew.

P.S. there's a couple of dependancies not mentioned in your README.txt file - libluajit and libhiredis
