Folks,

Can someone (possibly "the man" himself) settle an ongoing discussion?

How do you pronounce "Mese"? Long "e" sound (MEE-seh) or short "e" sound (MEH-seh)? I have been debating this with several individuals and there doesn't appear to be any official source to confirm this. Did I overlook something somewhere in the wiki?

^ That is relatively close to how it's originally said in Finnish. Me being Finnish, that's how I say it.

Plus, it's just cool to know how other languages treat certain words.

I pronounce it like Mesa. Or Me-sle

I call it Meeeeees, Like a long "me" with an s on the end. It was on a discussion on Mesecons pronunciation that I "learnt" that. I originally called it "Messy".

Google Translate's "listen" feature for Finnish says it exactly like a Finnish person would. We don't need real people for this in 2014!

Thanks for clearing that up. I had it all wrong. I was pronouncing it with only one syllable. Open Source often introduces names that aren't pronounced as you would expect by reading the text. Ubuntu, Debian and just recently, Mate (the desktop) have tripped me up with surprising pronunciations.

So I was actually pronouncing correctly all along! I had no idea.

If I understood the audio file by sfan5 (http://meow.minetest.net/mese.flac) correctly, the IPA notation of the pronounciation of “Mese” would be:

[ˈmɛˌsɛ]

I hope this question is now settled once and for all. If I do not hear any protests for 1 month, I put it into the wiki.

Okay, there were no protests for over 1 month, so I added said pronounciation to the wiki.

Maybe I add a recording of me speaking that word in the next days (the automated voice still sounds so automated. ;-)).
