Is it even possible to host a server on a Android device?

The codes are the same but I'm not sure how you could start the console/terminal on that system.

Yes, you can host servers on Android devices.

Either adb shell or a Terminal app.

It is theoretically possible to host a dedicated server, as its requirements are quite low. I successfully ran a server on a machine with 128M of RAM, with a CPU clocked at ~500MHz, and some folks here have dedicated servers running on Raspberri Pis.

That said, I don't know if a server started from the GUI, or otherwise a client running in the same device would be playable at all.

I tried it on my Nexus 4. It quickly heated up with only myself and my daughter connected. I would not advise it. If you want a server I would suggest a desktop.
Many of my mods are now a part of Minetest-mods. A place where you know they are maintained!
