Porting to ps3 ( minetest remake ) devs needed

i know the pslight sdks are out anyone able and willing to do this would unlock a lot of oppurtunity with minetest. little known fact= games like this are not sold on psn. but are on xbox....... fortresscraft etc.. please someone that knows more than i do look into this!!!:D

This would require porting Irrlicht to PS3 - a pretty herculean task, if I dare say so myself. It's possible, but as I'm already up to my neck in just *learning* how to code, I doubt I'll have time to assist a porting team - between learning and working on a port to PSP (don't ask, I won't tell), I've really bit off more than I can chew.

Then again, just my $0.02

Im not sure but i had heard that a sdk license for the PS3 cost 30,000 $

As of late 2007, since that's the latest I can find, it costs 7,500 Euros or $10,250.

im actually trying to get THatotherdev to help or something of the sort. he has made games way more complex than this for the ps3. this is our best solution:D hope he is cool
it would be freakin sweet to implement SPLITSCREEN:D i will update as soon as i get info

Ok I got some news from Thatotherdev. Here's what he said: /

If you are just looking to make a homebrew game like mine then that's a different thing.

I don't think it would really be possible to make something like that for PS3 using the current open source community made tools. You would need to have a seriously limited draw distance and it would still perform poorly.

It would definitely be possible with the official leaked SDK (which admittedly I have been thinking of going back to). But even then I think you would probably end up needing to do so much work getting it ported that it would be easier to just re write it from scratch. Since it has so few and such simple textures and other reusable assets there is no real reason to tether yourself to it anyways. If you want to make a game with a destructible grid based environment then that's very cool. But I would advise against trying to make a port of a clone.

If you have any specific questions about anything I'll try to be helpful. But I don't think I'm interested in collaborating on this or contributing anything significant for a verity of reasons that I'm not going to bother to get into because I'm sure I probably seem like enough of a jerk already."

So I WILL be starting on ps3 homebrew game like this. Oh coarse like 1000 times better:D anyone that knows scripting and is interested in helping let me know:D
And I might still call it minetest if celeron55 is ok with that:D

I don't have anything against you trying to make such.

However, if you make it from scratch, don't call it Minetest, because people would confuse two completely different projects to be the same thing. That would not be good, because people would go ask for support from the wrong place and so on.

And the only reason I would want to name it Minetest is because I don't play infiniminer/minecraft or anything else of the sort. So this game will be my mane influence for this: )

I would only use the "Minetest" name only if I used the Minetest codebase, as someone else already suggested.

Short on cash? Here is an idea!! Raise a certain amount of money (lets say 100k for example) then present that to sony or one of the ps3 exclusive companies with a signed petition and you may just get it made. 1 million dollars would most likely be the best possible money goal!

ok decided on making a Voxel based engine for my port. Ace of spaces would be my other influence on this. so it will be a cross between a voxel based system, with the minetest/ minecraft tool making etc. This should be fun:D
