Hi!

Here is an idea:

Post a screenie of some of your cobble generators, can be any style. This might help others new at these contraptions and give them some different ideas on doing so.

Here is one I created tonight on the "The Sea Is My Life" server.

And here is the back story on why I chose to build a wooden type...

So tonight I started playing on this server and did what I usually do, that is go a bit away from spawn and set up shop. In doing so, along the way I did not see any so I figured I'd make due. You are given just the basics, a few papyrus roots, dirt, cobble, seeds, saplings, and some wheat. I farmed a few trees and made a few more dirt blocks and decided to give it a go. It works like a charm, once I have enough cobble then we upgrade.

It was a shot in the dark to see if it would actually work, and surprisingly it did.

I use obsidian as ground and obsidian slabs to block the lava.
The benefit of this is when you use a super fast pick. This prevents you from destrying the lava sources.

I think I remember someone posting an automatic cobble generator in the screenshots thread. I may try my hand at making a fully automated one using technic.

I made a video showing how to build an Automatic Cobble Generator a while back:

Here's a cobble generator using poles. As it can be accessed by using the gaps the lava source is technically completely encased in nodes. It actually looks as if it is held by some mysterious force field.
Image

The lava source in the middle is held by 8 poles arranged on the outer side of a square of 3 by 3 nodes. The middle pole on each side has a little offset to one side and thus providing a gap a half node wide and another one node wide.
Image
As the wide gap is made of two halves of two adjoining nodes, the lava cannot escape but nevertheless be easily accessed.

of course you don't really need the corners and can get even more minimalistic

craft 2 blocks into 8 panel poles and you have all the shielding you need.

of course with micro blocks you would only spend one normal block of material
