How do "You" prepare your custom map?

I thought I make a discussion on how you plan your Custom Maps. Not necessarily tutorials ( you can if you like), but instead what you do to prepare and plan to help share different ideas and such.

Currently I'm planning a custom adventure "Story" map. Can't say the plot of course, but I try to draw out the map to plan out my landscape for the game.

Last time I tried to go with a map and make stuff from the top of my head, but that was a total fail. I found MyPaint and started some neat maps to make my Custom Story. Not only that, but it was a lot easier to label things that the player where to go.

P.S: If you like, you may ask for tips. I'm not really an expert on this subject, but there will be people here who might help the new map makers too.

Are you trying to make the map seed or just draw out the map?(Like how to do it?)
edit: Oh yes I forgot I think making a map seed is impossible.

you can..its weird though..you delete everything except the map seed thing and just start up the map again..you can change the seed too

I just get an image of the thing in my head and somehow slap together a map! or building

Are you interested in a sculpting mod to create the landscape? I already made it for personal use, but didn't uploaded it yet.

If I make a plan I often throw it away and do something else which seems better :)

I'm doing the same. I just do it as I go along. I think of books I've read, movies I've seen, songs I've heard, and maps I've played/seen. It's easy when your imagination is broad
