linux versions out of date?

Hi i wanted to get minetest i was hoping it was up to date with the windows version to my surprise the linux version is really out of date is there any builds that can solve this issue if not then i will just run minetest on wine

The minetest packages for the individual distros are maintained by different people, most of which aren't actively following development (as they also maintain other packages) and thus are not aware of newer versions. You can usually request for them to update the package.
You can also compile minetest yourself, there are detailed instructions in the readme and across the forums. If you're using ubuntu or a similar distro you can also use the one-line script that is on the forums too, it will do all the necessary steps for you.

Builds are nice, but it's very easy to compile it yourself.

Which Linux distribution do you use ?
I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 and I use the daily builds PPA that jp linked. There is also a
stable releases PPA.
And if you want to install it by compiling, you can try
Calinou's script.

i am on linux mint
PPA's should be compatible with linux mint too.

I am on Linux mint and the ppa works just fine.
