There has been some friction between us, partly my fault for taking what you write too seriously, however i can seperate that from your dev work and say i will miss your contributions, you have done a lot of good work for Minetest engine and Game and have been helpful with organisation, feedback and testing. Best wishes.

For what its worth... you made some damn good mods. We (my family) use them all the time. I only follow what happens to the engine and the game on github, and I see you gave plenty. Take care in whatever direction you go from here.

Kilbith has graciously put xdecor under minetest-mods, and I will take care of it with the intent of keeping it entirely in the spirit and design that it is right now. Please come help me take care of Xdecor.

So many people have to leave Minetest to be happy. For sure it's a healthy project... Go on.

EDIT : about those IRC logs : I saw some similar talks while you were there too :p

There many different people working on Minetest and its mods. People who hate others can be found everywhere, thus, this IRC log does not really surprise me. Usually it's caused because people take each other too serious or misunderstand the messages.
But leaving the community because there's an asshole (sorry for the speech)? Seriously?
It's sad to see another programmer who leaves Minetest and the community - I hope you will return someday!

Sorry if I was the reason for you leaving. I was simply stating my opinion. The #minetest-project channel is fun and friendly. I have read many comments from you that surprised me. Many others have told you that your comments were inappropriate and rude. I tend to stay away from that type of behaviour because it is damaging to a community.

I do know that you have done a lot for Minetest and I appreciate that. You have made many great mods and done a lot for the core and game. That will not be forgotten.

I do not have say over who can and can't be on the irc channel and as you have said before you don't care about my opinion so I do not think that I am the reason for you leaving but I could be wrong. If I am a part of the reason then sorry for not wanting the rudeness on there. Feel free to ask to join the channel. My opinion hold little weight in the world of Minetest anyway.

I haven't used your mods, but you know, my maps are all without mods. But I loved your NY-map and your discussions in the forum.

So, I hope, you will be back in one or two years.

And I wish you the best. The real live has a wonderfull graphic engine, but a not so good game engine. No savepoints and no cheats... Make the best of it. ;)

You made some really nice mods and made very nice contributions. As far as the chat issues..... You can't really be mad at people disliking the way you speak to others. A team or community is made of people who can get along. It is not made of people who are Narcissistic and rude. So the saying goes "what goes around comes around". I am not a hater, I just speak the truth.

Constructive criticism is fine but when you are insulting without anything to back up what you say then it is bullying. That is what I had a problem with.
As for your five year old comment, I see minetest more as a business model then an anarchy. If people are being treated bad then they are not going to stick around for very long. If you do not care about the growth of minetest then being ok with rude people. I would prefer to have minetest a place that is friendly and inviting.

For example;
If you went into a McDonalds to order food would you be fine if the person taking your order called you an idiot?

As I already said he has insulted a mod without anything to back up his insult. You talk about other peoples ego but what about JP being so but hurt that he leaves the community because a few people don't like his rudeness.

I would guess that he has been reading these comments. I can not say for sure but why both starting a thread if you are not going to read the replies?

This was aimed at the irc thread jp linked to, not this topic.

You and a couple others are talking smack about the guy and he is not present to defend himself;
You then go on to say what a nice and friendly community it is...thats not nice and friendly.
Thats deceitful and two-faced.

jp plainly states the purpose of this topic in the OP.

And yes he does back up his comments/criticism in the topic you linked to in IRC chat.
You just didnt like the way it "sounded" and how it made you "feel"

He clearly tells you he meant nothing personal.
He clearly tells you he was just trying to motivate you to code something unique.
He clearly tries to de-escalate the situation more than once.
But you did not..you took/made it personal..and it escalates from there with your own attacks.

Ferk had no problem asserting the motives behind the implementation of the mod without personal attacks;

If anyone else had said "Full of originality" it would be a compliment,
but jp said it and it is presumed to be an insult.
Albeit, a passive-aggressive comment..its not a blatant insult...it depends on how you take it.
He doesn't outright start insulting anyone till Ruben insults him first.
And it escalates from there.

Both situations are the same; you guys brought your baggage to a conversation
and turned the guy's statements into much more than he probably intended.
But thats okay cuz' there are more people that have the same opinion of him as you do
.....so fuck him.

I wish everyone just said goodbye and "let it go".

One of the hardest things to do, ever, is to let it go and have it's own life. JP finally saw that, for him, the best thing to do was to just to let it go so he can be himself again. Which is great, for him. And it could be good for minetest too, and he knows this.

But only if people remaining can also "let it go".

Go outside, smell the fresh air, talk to a friend or your family, and don't be arrogant and go accusing people who are left behind, likely already feeling guilty themselves somewhat, and drive them to self-defend with stupid SJW style attacks.

Nobody is personally responsible. Nobody wanted JP to leave. Everyone wants Minetest to be a better community. We're just clashing as to what is better, and how to do that. Friction is good, sometimes the rubber needs to burn to get grip.

Let it go.
