FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

Hi there, I'm Ryan. I'm a LUA Security Engineer/Developer and that is what I do for a living. I found Minetest after googling for some old versions of the game we loved, 'Minecraft Classic'. I found this forum and this site, and I loved what such a small community was creating, so here I am. I plan to look in depth of the code and get familiar with the games software. PM me if you have any questions! Also, can someone please explain to me the general concept of the game and what has happened so far? Thanks!

Minetest is described by the original creator (celeron55) as being inspired by Minecraft alpha.

Minetest is a game engine, Minetest Game is the default subgame, a subgame is a collection of Lua mods, all subgame content is in Lua so it is easy to derive new subgames for the engine (and alternative subgames are indeed wanted to be bundled alongside Minetest Game).

Perhaps you would like to chat to us in the IRC #minetest-dev channel on the 'FreeNode' network (a dedicated IRC client is needed to speak in that channel). That channel is for Minetest Engine and Minetest Game development, mod chat goes elsewhere.
