Since you started this, can I suggest you set up a git repo for us to do this? Once we've colated a first set we can ask celeron55 to comment on what he wants to do, or whether he wants to let a license-enforcement team take this on with his instructions/advice.

I'd like to suggest keeping a file for each offender, so that extra notes per-app can be added as time goes by.

Good stuff. I have submitted a PR for some changes to the examples, an example of communicating with the author of an offending item, as well as longer notes on license requirements.

I should repeat:

* LGPL does NOT mean the app should be free of charge. This is stated clearly by the FSF (publishers of the LGPL)
* Any mods licensed under WTFPL do NOT need attribution of any kind. Of course it is preferable, but it is not a requirement of the license. You cannot report an app for not giving attribution to WTPL mods
* Creative Commons licensed works, on the other had, ALWAYS need attribution

CC BY-SA 3.0 Unported. It allows commercial use and modification, as long as the derived work (the textures themselves) are under CC BY-SA 3.0 or 4.0 as well.

MultiCraft do mention Minetest servers being usable in the description, but very discreetly - fails on the "prominently" part.

The README.md on their Github page mentions Minestest in passing, with a clickable URL to the github contributors page, not the website. I don't think this is appropriate attribution and linkback.

I'll take this one as a first attempt and test of our new workflow.

It doesn't matter if anyone replies or not, it will be logged and the community will check on it themselves.

Even if it is as clear as day that a certain program is using code and artwork from Minetest and is not distributing it under similar conditions, please do not attempt, or do the following:

Do not launch a witch-hunt. This is the 21st century. Please behave appropriately.
Do not attempt to crack, grief, or crash their servers.
Do not attempt to contact the infringing program's developer. Any contact made with the developer shall be after consensus with respected members of the community at large and the Core Development Team.

The above has largely only resulted in a lot of drama, mostly ending with the infringing developer gaining the upper hand and getting away with using Minetest's code while violating the license. Please don't do it.

Actually, the author of Multicraft has added that the game is made with minetest to the readme.md of his github repo! hoorray! (for the one who won't understand i done this today :D)

They already are required to do so, but most core developers grew tired of sending DMCA orders to the Play Store.

Mineyoshi you need to look into Free Software Fondation and how to communicate why "free as in freedom" is more important than "getting stuff for free"

We have had the problem of explaining this for decades. LibreOffice and GNU/Linux are examples of Free competitors that work well and are used in tech places but still have problem being adopted by avg users.

So too is it with Minetest vs the more famous competitor.

If you want to raise Minetest's profile, it starts with talking about it everywhere you can :)
