Twitter [Poll]

Does anyone know who had @Minetest on Twitter? I think someone should be running an official Minetest Twitter account. I'd be willing to volunteer to do this, but I think that it should be more official than just running out and doing it. Plus, back to my original question, does anyone here know who have @Minetest..?

I dont know...
But the idea seems to be good!
If who have the account tweet when a new update come, and come here and hear all the news every day, then it's okay!

The minetest handle was taken by a random person testing how to use Twitter in 2009 and has never been used since. It's well annoying

Maybe there is some way to contact them. Even through Twitter itself. I'll take a look.
Could always use something like @minetestofficial or something, but...

minetestofficial is 1 character too long, the max is 15.
The most official twitter account is minetestcommune
Maybe their could be an account which is named after something in minetest like mese
Or we could use @MinetestGame

I like the idea of "@MinetestGame", maybe you only need to put some effort to win some attention!
Because "@MinetestGame" Doesn't sound so "official-ish" , but maybe if the account keep with activity, posting news and content about Minetest we are ok!

I would also like a offical Twitter account, but because I don't use twitter myself, I would like to have an offical account on Diaspora* who posts every news about Minetest. Diaspora is decentral, so the account would have to beon one of the communitys servers like diasp.org. I think Diaspora also has a functionality to post things written on Diaspora on Twitter.

The owner of Minetest.net or Minetest.com can reclaim that username by asserting that they are being impersonated
https://support.twitter.com/forms/impersonationAt minimum it can be used to push updates, I would recommend also pushing screenshots of servers, games, and showcased mods to generate interest. If somehow we could single out with votes some notable items form the Post Your {Screenshots | Videos} threads, and then direct-link to the specific posts, that would be cool.

Thanks for the info! I'll try and bring it to celeron55's attention on IRC. I'm working on a website to manage and find mods, subgames, texture packs, skins, and maps. The site also includes "Featured" sections for each type of content, ranking being based off likes. That way, user contributed content (as found on the Minetest forum) could easily be "reposted" on Twitter.
When it comes to videos and screen shots, you've inspired me to make a MT "social network." This of course could be reposted on Twitter. By social network, I mean a place to post things like videos and screenshots, most likely in fact, one or the other would be required for each post.

I'm working on a tool to easily add and manage mods on Ubuntu and Debian. There's one person trying to maintain an APT repository. We're several working on this centralization/ease problem. Not sure where our paths will actually cross :-p
What's your URL?

Ranking would certainly be of interest.

I have half a mind of starting a Minetest Wikia so as to be able to wiki-all-the-mods. Not just the default stuff like on the main wiki - but literally, all the mods.
If you are indeed keen on setting up an actual social net - have you considered using Humhub?

It would be cool to have a minetest twitter account, but it should be as official as possible. Meaning that access to it shouldn't be lost after whoever volunteered to control the account lost interest and doesnt care about minetest anymore.
At least two trusted community members should have access, with at least one of them also being a core dev.
I don't have a problem with trusted "outsiders" doing the actual tweets as "community managers" or something, but it would be best if the people that have "master" access to the account are as trusted members of the community as possible.
So maybe rubenwardy and c55 are the "backup admins"?

That's great! But before we continue, I think the subject should be discussed with celeron55. In fact, I'm headed to IRC to do that now.
Gonna try and get @Minetest. Hopefully celeron can do something to get it back.

And Steam for that matter. Facebook, yes that would be a great idea. I'm gonna talk to celeron again and see what his opinion is. Because, whatever happens, it needs to be controlled by, for example, several trusted developers/community members. And of course, celeron55 should have access too. To anything like that.
