FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

I have recently come across the airship and meshnodes mods

and I was wondering if anyone has or could do the same thing but for boats?
as it would be very cool to sail big ships around my a minetest world.

Those work but are slow and problematic, C++ VAEs are planned for Minetest though.
