Removing stairs

by Peacob » Sun Oct 16, 2016 15:31

Hello all,

My kids and I are new to Minetest and while building our basement we accidently place the stairs in the wrong direction to start. How can one remove or destroy stairs? We have no mods installed, just the base game.

You can actually use the screwdriver to rotate it properly. Otherwise just break it with your hand aka left click.

Removing is done by pointing on the desired node and holding the Left mouse button by default.
Like this you can remove many blocks too.

stone stairs need a pickaxe to be removed.
removing wood is faster with an axe, but like all soft materials you can also break it by hand.

stairs automatically rotate depending on where you point when you place them.
if you point on the ground, they will be attached to the ground and lead upwards.
if you point on the wall, they will become attached to the wall and rotate accordingly :P

you can prevent rotation by holding the sneak key (shift) while placing them ;)
if you place your stairs properly, you need to spend less time with the screwdriver.

In Minetest, each block (including stairs) is removed by a mining tool. Your hand is a mining tool, too. Just hold the left mouse button while wielding the appropriate mining tool and looking on the stairs.
If you don't know which tool will work, just try out the tools you have. Remember, each block type is different.

The stairs in Minetest Game can be dug either by hand, by axe, pickaxe or even shovel, depending on the stair type. E.g. stone stair needs pickaxe, while wood stairs needs axe or hand (slower). Try different tools to figure out which tool works best. :-)

Here's a list of available stairs (follow the links): http://wiki.minetest.net/Stair
I'm creating MineClone 2, a Minecraft clone for Minetest.
I made the Help modpack, adding in-game help to Minetest.

Yeah, but this only gets rid of wooden stairs. The stone stairs will stay. :P

Thanks for all of the suggestions everybody. Sorry it took so long to write back, but I was away on business and then a little too busy for games.
