Ultimate modded game (Minetest++)

by jordan4ibanez » Thu Apr 12, 2012 12:33

This fork of the game is optimized for fun (or will be soon)
https://github.com/jordan4ibanez/minetest

Here's the website
http://minetestpp.tk/

what is in:
-Insane tnt (normal, iron, and mese) like minecraft tnt
-Item drop on dig, and item collection like in minecraft (WILL NOT BE INCLUDED UNTIL FLAWLESS)
-Better digging animation
-A better key map [viewing fog is changed to F3, C is to fly, X is to toggle fast, R is inventory]
-Map saving is boosted from 5.6 seconds to 3 minutes [Takin' a tip from optifine]
-Nether
-Particles (will be EVENTUALLY to c++)
-Insanity feature (like give_initial but with tnt! so in minetest.conf put "insanity = true" to try it!)
-3d player
-inventory skins
-mesecons
-better player physics (acceleration and inirtia)
-better player physics in water (you don't stop instantly instead you slow down in water)

stuff that is going in:
-Mining tnt
-music discs and music box

stuff that should be in:
-create mode insta-mine
-merge 3d player (digging and looking around in all directions add on maybe?)
-sound when player hurt
-changeable skins for players
-hand uses hand section of player skin
-remove rightclick drop so it can be used for other things
-weight to the "hand" so when you look around its like minecraft
-water slows you down until your down to "in water" speed instead of instant stop
-rail-like and sign-like extrusion..also make signs able to stand up like minecraft signs using player direction
-minecarts
-boats
-gui skins
-better menus
-3d mobs
-Water dripping But only if someone makes lava drip too

glitches:
-dropped item flicker (game engine bug; needs fixing)
-ghosting tnt

-Map saving is boosted from 5.6 seconds to 3 minetest [Takin' a tip from optifine]

Do you mean minutes?

Actually that OptiFine boost did the trick for me.

Does anyone want new textures, ask away.

lol yeah. I meant that this version will probably not scrap the drops (after like 10 hours of work, and still working on them)

For "Nuke drops items" I coded this:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
            if math.random(10)==1 then
                minetest.env:add_item({x=np.x+math.random()-0.5, y=np.y+math.random()-0.5, z=np.z+math.random()-0.5}, n.name)
            end

The whole new mods/nuke/init.lua file can be downloaded here: http://ompldr.org/vZGNxNQ

This only works on powerful computers! Although only every 10th node turns into an item, every explosion takes like twice the time.

Btw I love the new on-step-over animation! It is a lot better! I think I'm gonna use this spin now.
Another idea: You should add in background music, just like in minecraft. It only please the evening, the morning or afternoon. It can also depend on special places like jungle, beach, desert... If someone can provide the sounds, I can code that.

lol. Also, could someone make background music? I'm planning to implement this (I'm sort of bored of programming in LUA, I need some C++ work :P).

NOTE TO JORDAN: I've made a new version of the "magnetic item taker" mod which fixes the problem with the dropped block going to the sky. It's located here: http://minetest.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1597

OK, we don't need TNT sounds anymore, just background music. Background music can also be played using lua. Can have advantages, because every player on the server can hear the same music! Disadvantage: Music hast to be sent from server to the client, so make sure the file isn't too big.

Came up with this: Some random piece, some synth and guitar, nothing too much.

License: CC-BY-SA

http://ompldr.org/vZGNydg/chill.ogg

It weighs around 300 kb.

EDIT: I think this could be a music disc: http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/index.html?genre=Silent+Film+Score&page=2 and hit play on Five Card Shuffle.

For background music I would use opengameart.org
We must be careful not to clone Notches mistakes.

Dogers made already 15 tracks for Minetest!
You can download them here (Post 68).
The archive includes my sounds, too. Some of the sounds are already included in the main game.

By the way, I coded background music with lua already, but it just played a random song every 2 hours..
