RANT: Why do people roleplay?????

Rant mode: Enabled
What I don't understand is, WHY DO PEOPLE DO CRAZY ROLEPLAYS????!! It aggervates me! I hate it when I join a server and these kids are saying stuff like "Mama, feed me", and then the "mama" says stuff like: /me puts soandso in her crib. These kids are acting like newborn babies, but they talk! *sigh* A little roleplaying is ok, but I've been to server where every time I join, it's the same people doing the same old tiring stuff. This always gets me mad and I say "You're not a baby! Grow up!" And then they call me all kinds of dirty names for daring to say that. >:( I won't say which server(s) or who because I don't like calling out players behind their backs, but if you're reading this, you know who you are.

Rant mode: Disabled
I want to make it a rule on my servers that you can't roleplay too much.

Make consensus )
Put roleplay in setting branch )

-"Are you want a family roleplay with ?"
-"No problem till now we are dwarfs with language, folklore, law and rights."
-"You may to dig or not to dig exactly as Thorin say !"
-"You. you and you take yours heard and go. South Mine want you !"
-"A little dwarfs go craft for honor of Gods"
-"And do it QUAET !!!"

BBmine, the problem is rather that every chatmessage is treated of equal importance.
Since CSM is added, l think l could make a mod which
· highlights a message if you are mentioned in it,
· every player gets a different colour (near to white),
· you can give players different chat priorities:
stark-hide: completely ignore every message emanating from the player
hide: if you are mentioned, mark it as usual, else print the message black in terminal
dark-grey: print it dark-grey in terminal and chat (except mentions)
grey: like dark-grey but brighter
default: like dark-grey but the player's colour
important: show every message as if you were mentioned
nil: remove the player from the list of specified priorities
· You can also change which priority is given when not explicitly specified.
· Of course, tab autocompletion is available that you don't have to type so much (l need to make https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/4437 client side)
· When printing to terminal, ESCs in the string are removed to avoid … you can try it with $ echo -e "\033P"

Client-sided mods

You will need to wait for someone to add a way to get the name of the local player or ask the user to enter it. Checking which player sent a chat message is kinda messy right now, due to the way minetest sends the chat to the client.

red-001, l opened an issue about it: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/5454

BBmine, here's my chatfocus mod: https://github.com/HybridDog/chatfocus
Note that it doesn't work correctly yet, see previous posts.

Why don't you ignore them? I mean, do not pay attention, those kids aren't even from your family, why to care about what they do? Well, always that they don't insult you or include you in their children-ish games, why to care then?

People decide to roleplay because they have nothing better to do...LOL

You never see roleplay on MC servers, or if not, very rarely.

Here's a top tip: Minetest Game needs more worthwhile content (like actual content, not just new blocks!)

You could use the mod storage api to store settings.

l don't do it because setting_get could be added soon.
Instead you can configure the settings manually in init.lua now and after joining you need to type "hello<space><space>" without quotes in chat (replace <space> with " " without quotes) to make the mod know your name.

Maybe if you do actually try to have servers with better mods this stuff wouldn't be seen so often...
