Some news.

I have some news, next week, I sense this:

1) Death Dealer having most posts.
2) 0.4 Stable EDIT: Nope: Read this: http://minetest.net/servers.php
3) Me unable to play minetest for a week, same for forums.
4) Minetest++ Getting merged.
5) Nether Mod improvements.

And the bad news.

I am on holiday next week, 21/4/12 - 1/5/12 I won't even be able to post, unless I do find Wi-Fi.

And c55.me no longer works.

oh tarter sauce i was almost finished with my cavern in that server...but yea the griefing was getting rediculous...bout 50x50 area at the spawn filled with lava yesterday and just kept getting worse...i wonder what they feel like there getting out of griefing? they must have some personal hate with celeron or some of the players playing that server ;c

working on a way that you cant grief water and lava without privs

like remove water and lava or add water and lava?

yea but that would be hard to do...i think there should be a way to track certain things easily...aka if player x places any water/lava nodes they are recorded in there location and time

same with griefing...if player x mines plyaer y's placed block then it would be recorded...

would probably not work (dunno im not a game code writer lol) but it would help with griefers without penalizing the other players who want to have fun :p

EDIT: by being hard to do i mean what if someone wants to make a waterfall/lavafall....how can you know the difference between a griefer who places one lava block to destroy someones house vs someone making a lavafall that takes multiple nodes? it would be a fine line to draw :p

Yeah, I was always thinking of a mod that logs all of the "placing/removing" part of the log into a separate file so that people can know the griefers easily.

or have a priv called greifer. Negates all actions even if they have interact.

why not remove buckets? that way only the admin can /give water.

i noticed someone in chat the other day encourage griefing on MC servers, i forget who, but if people from here are going there to do that, we can continue to expect blowback.

now that ive thought about it: a simple mod could stop that particular kind of griefing. Youd have to define areas (square rectangular,) in a seperate lua file that just contains an array, and in those areas placed water or lava would be removed as it's placed?

yea but again how would you tell who is placing the water/lava? a griefer or someone who wants to make a foutain/waterfall/elevator/etc? as to the removing buckets that wouldnt really help at all if the admin still gives lava/water nodes...someone could just hold onto there lava/water nodes for a while and when the admin has given out alot start using them...in that case it would probably backfire on the normal players who just got the lava/water nodes and are now the suspects when it was a griefer who got them earlier :p

like i said, theres nothing preventing you from removing buckets from your server, its a mod like any other?.. if the admin or someone he trusts needs water and lava they can use normal /give commands.

otherwise if you dont wanna go tinkering with the code then youd need the type of mod like i proposed, where you specific corners of a rectangle and the mod removes any water or lava that is placed in that area as it is placed - if you ever need to add such nodes, launch the server w/o the mod the time it takes you to do it. (or just run the mod when the server is public?)

I did some experimenting a while ago with saving the output of the server, here.

things like water and lava that can cause alot of damage shouldnt be on the same privilege as cobble or sand, honestly.

Celeron made interact_extra as a priv, I do think per block privs can be done, same for tools and craft items.

mauvebic wrote:then how do people still manage to trash a map? :S

because with the interact_extra you could build on both sides of the map....but on defualt you could build only on one side of the map...alot of people didnt care just so long as they could build so they didnt even go for the interact_extra privs...so once they all started building over there the griefers came (which they could build over there by default too) and trashed the place big time

plus i think even if you dont have interact_extra you can place water/lava nodes on the restricted side (i think anyway...someone told me that they could burn down my mansion (made of wood) with lava even if they didnt have interact_extra but idk for sure)
