Where is Minetest heading?

Is Celeron planning on making this game almost identical to Minecraft? I just want to know where this game is heading.

It becomes what people make of it. (open source) anyone can contribute mods (lua), code (c), textures, and those that cant offer suggestions instead :-)

But is there a certain goal?

But isn't this game ment to be a minecraft clone?
And won't there be further versions of minetest?

I like the concept of becoming a Game Engine. you know, if you want to make a FPS or a Racing Game, or something completely different, i know this is not possible (yet)

minetest and minecraft are both clones technically. but i doubt anyone here is explicitly going out of their way to reproduce every MC feature. although it can be sometimes irritating when people who dont wanna buy MC complain that this game lacks features MC has.

That wasnt my point :P it just irks me when ppl say minetest isn't as good, and we should do this and that and bla bla bla so they can essentially play minecraft without having to buy minecraft. They forget that theyre not customers here, we work on what we damn well want to :P

That's true mauvebic, the game will head where the developers take it. So who's to know.

I can certainly feel for the ppl who dont wanna buy minecraft, when i still bought games i never had to pay subscriptions to play online, or fork out 50-80$ for every insignificant addon that they release slice-by-slice (and then they propose you pay fullprice for an ultra deluxe version with all the addons + one or two more lol). Apparently now the more money you fork over, the more in-game perks you get. (star trek online, etc.)

wasnt like that when i was growing up.

I know what you mean and I understand now.

In the later versions of Minetest will certain mods be built in?

that seems to be the idea. to integrate the good mods into the game.

That looks like what's happening - zlpdoors (minecraftesque doors for minetest) has been integrated, and I'll imagine that moreores is heading down the same path.

You cant have too much stuff in minetest_game, the idea is still to let people install whatever mods they want, but the more common ones used by several other mods are more likely to make it in. Though to be honest i delete a fair bit of default stuff when i recompile. which is why im glad mobs are only coming back in lua form lol

It's 30 mods in minetest_game, and I thought Celeron fixed that.
