Ideas to generate publicity for minetest

Hello, I would like to suggest some methods to advertise Minetest and have more events:

  • The year-mod (the best of each year)
  • The texture of the pack (the best)
  • The adventure map of the year
  • The year custom map

In this way we will have a strong development and we will welcome newcomers.

ps. why not go on other forums and in the other games do not we review minetest?

That will work at the end of each year.

For more immediate support:
- doing mod spotlights
- texture spotlight
- when custom maps are available then that too

add minetest to your signature in other forums.

because it takes time to make a good mod or texture. a minimum of time is certainly 6 months

Certainly not: you can theorically make a mod in 3 minutes. If you're taking 6 months to make a mod that adds some colorful blocks (that's what most mods do anyway :P), then it's probably not going to be a good mod.

"im banned on this forum!!!!! but i dont know why :(..."

ive done one in three minutes look
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
 minetest.register_craft({
    output = "default:water_source",
    recipe =  {
    {"bucket:bucket_water"},
    },
    replacements = {
    {"bucket:bucket_water", "bucket:bucket_empty"},
    }
})
 minetest.register_craft({
    output = "default:lava_source",
    recipe =  {
    {"bucket:bucket_lava"},
    },
    replacements = {
    {"bucket:bucket_lava", "bucket:bucket_empty"},
    }
})
or at least it would have taken three minutes if i didnt mess up several times

But if you make a mod complete and accurate, with no bugs and no, you will definitely 6 months (work, school and other commitments)

it doesnt take six months to write a complex mod, takes me on average 3 days, and most of that time was spent thinking "how is this going to work with that" rather than actually writing code.

without wanting to speak for most modders, im pretty sure the main thing for most of us is motivation, to actually get around and start/finish stuff lol some bits of modding are more fun than others lol

i like the ideas in OP. though if you want to stimulate real competition, i'd do it on a monthly basis. a lot can change in the game over a year lol.

But I've written chee every 6 months or every year, the mod is better rewarded. hence the unp can do immediately in 3 minutes and maybe wait 6 months before the awards.

I think minetest has progressed greatly recently, with the modding api, sound, and custom node shapes. I think there should be more publicity. There's a facebook page here and a facebook group here, and a diaspora* tag here. None of those are really active, I think they should be used for advertising mods/textures/servers, chatting about minetest, etc, so minetest gains a larger presence on social networks. Also, minetest.com should be updated, it would be a great resource.

Why don't someone with a YouTube account make a series of minetest let's play & have fancy intro pictures like minecraft let's play's because some minecraft let's plays have pictures of the minecraft avatar getting scared by a creeper or something. Why don't we have a intro picture of the minetest avatar getting iron & a oerkii watching over them & have lots of cool fun stuff to watch in the video? Also we could have little ads introducing minetest on websites on the side of the websites page. What we need to do is find out how minecraft got so popular & the things that people used to make minecraft popular we could use to make minetest popular.

It's hard to advertise a free product, because it costs to advertise...
Maybe we can make a bunch of websites for Minetest, each one different with different stuff and descriptions, and a bunch of server list sites...
Now all we need are some creative and ''wasteland'' servers...anyone know where I can host a server for free (remotely over the net)? Like stan5's server, where if he gets enough clicks he can host his server...but I forgot where to find it...

minetest believe me when I say that is known, at least in Spain, the only thing people would download and play but does not try to improve it, but if you search for "alternative minecraft" in google you out a lot of posts and videos to minetest users .. .

you have the version "delta" in the repositories playdeb.net , and major Linux distros have included in their repositories.
if you want to further develop you ought to make a more specific advertising aimed at people who can help, forums opensoftware and development, graphic design, ...

sorry for my bad English

Tonkya is there also a download folder for windows of minetest delta?

I do not know if it is available for Windows ...
but having stable releases, not very logical to go back in time ...
only use windows for Autocad, for professional reasons ...
I love GNU + Linux

Minetest-delta was the experimental branch of minetest that got new features first, but that was during 0.3. I think it's dead now.

I want to start posting updates about my server on diaspora*, but I don't want to look like the only minetest player. Could others start advertising their servers/textures/mods/whatever there, or discuss minetest-related stuff, and include the #minetest tag? Including other tags like #minecraft, #free, #foss, #games, etc. would help to increase visibility.
