First of all, that link is to something that will make XP look like vista. Not the other way around.
Second, the best way to speed minetest up is to get new hardware or set clouds to off, fancy leaves to off, opaque water, smooth lighting off etc.
Also if you are on vista, click the start button and type "SystemPropertiesPerformance". A windows will come up. Select "Adjust For Best Performance". Click apply. There will be a noticable effect on fps if you are on low end hardware.
