[Youtube] Texture Pack Reviews

by LolManKuba » Sun May 20, 2012 00:02

Hey everyone today I'm finally annoucing that I'm going to be making Texture Pack reviews since I finally got into making videos again. I'll start tommorow by doing a default one and maybe Jordach's Hand Drawn texture pack and maybe Vanessa's C64/8-bit texture pack right now I need to build the house for it, which should be that long. I restarted making videos today because I recorded a Happy Wheels Megasode (Still uploading) video on me and my friends channel. Anyway here's theYoutube: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvTkXa9QqvoZd2fV5lma8Yw

The video you made about my texture pack is badly broken - your audio is high pitched, wayyyyyy out of sync with the video (as in 30 seconds or more), and the whole thing is cut off at the end. :(

That will be fixed when I get a better microphone.

It isn't your microphone, it's the software you're using to process your video before uploading it. Something's screwing up the audio sync; my guess is the audio is playing fast relative to the video, which is why the audio pitch and sync are so far off.

My editor: AVS video editor (It's not this)
I use Hypercam 2 to record (It has a audio option)

The options of the hypercam 2 audio option menu (Which I currently have one right now)
[Checkbox CHECKED UP]Record sound from - Default sound recording device
Number of channels - 1 - Mono
Sample Size: 16 bit
Sample Rate: 44100 Samples per sec

suggestion: use a screen capture program to record the video portion, then play the recording back in a normal video player, while you record your audio with just any normal sound recorder. Combine them using your video editor, adjust the audio delay option to match them up (there will usually be some delay, this is normal), then save the result as a complete video file and upload it to youtube.

The difference will be marginal, but you'll get higher quality recordings that way, and then you can be sure if your audio is being recorded properly.

Well of course the simple way is to do what you're doing now, but clearly that doesn't work :-)

The next simplest way is to find some other program to do the job.

Failing that, you will have to record the video and the sound separately. To do that, follow this plan (it looks harder than it really is, because I've broken the process down into small steps):

1. Load up minetest and open your world. Position your player so that you can start demonstrating right away.

2. Load up some kind of program that can record your desktop (Hypercam 2 if you can't find anything better). Change whatever settings need changed; if it has an audio option, *disable* it.

3. Start the recorder program, and play around with minetest, doing whatever it is you'd normally do to demonstrate the texture pack. When you're done, close both the recorder and minetest.

4. Open any kind of simple sound recorder, such as the one that comes with your operating system. Configure it to record from your microphone, using an appropriate sample rate, resolution, and number of channels.

5. Using Windows Media Player, or any other appropriate program, play the video you recorded in step 3.

6. Start the sound recorder, and start the video player at the same time.

7. Start talking, using the video as your guide to what to say, like reading from a script.

8. When you're finished, stop the recorder and close the video player. Save the sound file.

9. Load up your video editor and open the video you just watched. Hunt through the menus and find the option that lets you load up an audio file, and do so.

10. Play the result using the video editor. If necessary, adjust the program's audio delay so that what you're saying coincides with what the video is doing. Once it looks and sounds right, save the result as an AVI or whatever. Don't close the video editor yet, you may need to tweak your settings later.

11. Load up Windows Media Player (or whatever) again, and play the video you just saved. Make sure it behaves exactly the way you want it to.

12. If it doesn't work, fiddle with it in your video editor until it's right. Re-save, re-play it, re-edit until you get it the way you want it.

13. Upload the result to youtube.

I can only recommend Linux applications, as that's the OS I use; "RecordMyDesktop" works well enough for the video part. Gnome Sound Recorder should suffice for the audio part. VLC for the video player. AVIDemux for the video editor.

In Windows, I don't know what you'd use for the desktop recorder, but Windows Sound Recorder, Windows Media Player, and VirtualDub would probably suit for the rest of your tool chain, respectively.
