I wonder why there are so many Spam bots on here lately.

Because spam makes money, or sends viruses, so it's "fun", or because Minetest sucks (a lot of servers are griefed by Minecraft players usually).

Maybe add a CAPTCHA on logging in?
I searched in the punbb extentions and pun_antispam v1.3.4 seems to do that.
