Why did celeron create Minetest?

I saw this on http://wiki.minetest.com/wiki/History_of_Minetest :

"At first celeron55 had nothing. Just a knowledge of game design and a dream. He watched Minecraft take form. But there was something that wasn't right.

In all of Minecraft's glory, it had left someone out. The little guy. People with less powerful PCs that could only stare and watch Minecraft slowly melt their PCs. This angered celeron, so much to the point where one day he sat at his computer, watched Minecraft majestically fry his PC, and thought "I could do better." So he did."

Is this really why celeron created Minetest? I guess I should ask myself the same question, why did I create the butterflies to be added to the animals mod? The answer is because it's fun, and I can't help myself, I need to do this stuff. Otherwise, why spend all this time without getting paid for it?

“We monitor many frequencies. We listen always. Came a voice, out of the babel of tongues, speaking to us. It played us a mighty dub.”

I think he started it just because of the challenge. He wanted to showcase his scripting skills.

Why did celeron55 make this software...? I wish I knew. It seems to me that it's doomed to fail as it's like a spoof of Minecraft. Is it designed as a joke? I mean it can't last long, I wouldn't be surprised if the developers got sued.
I reckon Minecraft's worth every penny you pay for it...

Not possible; no code/resources were used from minecraft to make Minetest, Celeron55 made it all from scratch (yes, there are some minecraft texture packs, but other people made those, and it is nearly impossible to find them and sue them, because all of the modders use aliases)
Also, ''minetest'' isn't a registered trademark of minecraft, so the name is clear too. The only thing ''used from minecraft'' was the basic idea - a world of blocks. But in this sector of the galaxy, it isn't stealing if you have the same idea as someone else.
EVEN if Notch got a ''patent'' of the world of blocks, it wouldn't work out, because it would be limited to the Java code of Minecraft, and anything made in an alternate coding language, like C++ and Irrlicht, can't be bound by the patent, because the code used to make the game is different.
----------------
I believe that the true reason that Celeron55 made minetest, was to create a virtual universe of blocks and raw power, that is completely free for everyone to use and modify at their own free will, with absolutely no boundaries to what can be done.
Minetest gives us a way to ''get away'' from the binding chains of the real universe, and leave to a greater, broader universe, made of nothing but blocks and raw power, where everyone can do anything and make anything at their own free will, with no boundaries at all. It's like an infinite supply of Legos of all colors and types. The possibilities are infinite - What will YOU make?

I have to agree with what he said about Minecraft frying PCs. Its a bit slow on mine and my laptop is about a year old. The only way I am able to enjoy it is by playing it on the XBOX.

However, Minetest runs great on my HP laptop and it has so much potential.
