Minetest music

by Josh » Tue Jul 17, 2012 04:33

I just thought that we could have some nice calming music while were playing minetest. Does it sound like a good idea?

hmm, maybe a ''stereo'' mod that makes several ''music cards'' that can be put into a ''CD player'' or ''Stereo'' and play music within a certain range...

My homedecor mod does feature a (really nice, in my opinion) stereo object and speakers, but they make no sound at present. Someone suggested this before, and if anyone can show me how on-demand sound works, I would love to discuss it. Seems like a good addition to that mod.

Hmm maybe music kindv'e would be annoying if we had it constantly going on. But we could have a tick box in the settings menu & if you want music you could tick it. But if nobody wants that we could have more sounds in the game.

Or they could just install the music mod from the DesDes Map.

I think the music "option" could be crafting a stereo (like VanessaE's). You could drop any music files you want in the mod's folder for the stereo to play. If you don't want music you either don't craft the stereo or don't install the mod or you build the stereo and don't turn it on.
The stereo could have an inventory-like interface to let you pick the song you want to play.

Since somebody is already working on the bed I wanted to make, I might go for this if nobody does it.

If someone wants to patch homedecor to do that, I'll gladly pull their changes. Adding a little background music to the stereo would be nice.

Or better, it should come from the speakers, if there's a stereo within say 15-20 nodes (and it's turned on).

Well for me anything from roughly 1940 to 1985 will do. From Glenn Miller to Aerosmith. Considering the copyrights on that sort of music though, it might be legally questionable. :-)

Aerosmith is cool i like that song dude looks like a lady & another one of there songs l i like is same old song and dance. I guess we could have something like that. May i suggest another band: The rolling stones their cool i don't know if they would suit minetest though.

I like:
clasic-rock, punk, jazz, cill, darck, darck metal, mod, after-punk, pop, clasical, experimenta, garage-rockl...
to get an idea, the soundtrack of trainspotting ...
especially bands like, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Depeche Mode, Barrabas, the Cure, and of course the great God David Bowie...and all kinds of alternative music,
but because of copyright, only you can put some promotional themes...
My mod: [MOD]3D Forniture 1.0
Download: 3DForniture_v_1.0.zip
Page development (European Castilian):

http://www.jamendo.com/

For example:

Minetest is non-commercial, so CC licence will be fine, second condition - name of artist should be shown in game credits.

Maybe, you set down a stereo node, and punching it changes it to a different node that plays a music in-loop...? then punching it again changes the node to a different one that plays different music? or, we can use a block like that that has text on it showing the music title, and it's under a stereo block, and we can connect the stereo to ''speaker'' nodes with ''wires'' that connect them to the stereo...?
That would be awesome.

No problem, here are also songs with this licence http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ (to make commercial use of the work).

List of these: http://www.jamendo.com/en/search#qs=fq=license_cc:%28-sa%20AND%20-nd%20AND%20-nc%29&q=*:*

Minetest is free software / opensource and precisely because of that it is not non-commercial. Read the opensource definition by the OSI or the software freedoms by the FSF. You can sell Minetest copies if you want.

Ive made ingame music player as a part of my technic mod, it allows you to listen to whatever you want.
Just put the ogg files to mods directory, build player, power it and listen.
Also im preparing music pack for "old farts" who remember amiga/pc demoscene. One of the best musicians of PC demoscene, Skaven/FutureCrew, gave us permission to use his music in minetest.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AILyujYsCnU
skip to 0:40 for music player

Sound should play music stored locally, and changeable.
