Volcano... Bad Idea

by BrandonReese » Wed Sep 12, 2012 00:58

I didn't realize trying to make a volcano would yield such realistic results... I just wanted a trickle of lava down the hill, but this is what I got.

Oh god, why?!?!

In all due seriousness, Lava is something you don't want to play with.

lava is funny. when i was building my rock-paper-scissors-lizard-spock machine, i thought lava would make nice decoration... next thing the building sparks a light... i had worked on it for a few hours and wanted to share it, so I quickly quit the game... then removed the fire mod from default mods, then went back into the game.... ahhh, all safe (except for a few unknown fire blocks)

Lesson learned... I was able to fly to the top of the mountain and remove the lave source node and the flow eventually stopped causing minimal damage to any real structures.

You have cheated to create your machine?

I built a house out of lava once. Also not a good idea. :/

Actually I take that back. It's brilliant! You should try it.

Hmm, the title of your topic remembers me of a mod I once made but never released.
It is called Narbondel.
Depending on the daytime, there are lava blocks generated above a block (max. 12, then it sinks).
So you could make a pretty volcano, which blows out every day at 12.00.

When i made a castle in 0.3.1 i made a lava wall with lava covering it & i put glass to hold the lava in place. And everytime i broke one of the glass nodes lava would spill everywhere & i would have to clean it up.

Yeah. It's the same with water. I once but 3 water sources next to each other and it flooded a huge desert hill completely.

Yeah, I started creating something like dungeon/trap tunnel and I made two buttons: one opens the passage and the second one opens a lava container above you, which means quick death. While testing, the lava got... REALLY out of control blocking the whole device (which was programmed to "reset state" after 30 seconds) and I had to remove the 6 sources... hopefully I managed to do it with water... nothing was destroyed hopefully (maybe thanks to the water in the cave, that this entrance is in), but there is quite a mess now - I had to clean the device up, but now I have a lot of obsidian, stone and molten rock in the cave (I use the "lavacooling" mod).

If you put lava or water on a hill, every time it jumps down a block, it will create a new source, thus creating hell on earth, have you made a wooden house.
