Is there a way to assign a texture pack to a specific world?

At the moment a line in the minetest.conf file assigns a texture pack that is applied to all of my Minetest worlds.

I'd like to be able to have different texture packs applied to different worlds without having to edit the minetest.conf each time.

A wood and stone texture pack for a medieval world.

A steel and asphalt texture pack for a modern city world.

A wild and bizarre texture pack for an alien world.

A cartoonish texture pack for a cartoon world.

And so on, and so on...

The basic idea has already been accomplished with mods by putting the mods in each world's individual worldmods folder.

Is there an (as yet) undocumented function where a simple text file placed in the worlds folder that contains the path to the texture pack to be used for that world or is it copying the texture pack into the world folder like the mods?

I've noticed some mods are merely a depends.txt and a lua.ini. Do I need to write a lua file to pull in the texture pack? (Again this is to apply a texture pack to a specific world and not to any of the others in my minetest world folder.)

Thanks.

you can make multiple games with different texture packs and make worlds of these games.

Forgive me, I'm still a noob, but how do I make a game?

Up until now I had thought of worlds (those individual folders, with corresponding names, that show up under .minetest/worlds/) as games.

At the moment I've been doing this:
1. Start Minetest
2. Singleplayer tab -> New ->World Name (fill in the blank)
3. Then selected "Minetest [minetest]" (instead of "Minimal development test [minimal]")
4. Create

So if this process creates worlds, then to make a game (like it is labeled in the "New" screen of the Main Menu) do I have to compile another version of Minetest in a different directory?

Thanks.

A game is a collection of mods. Find the "minetest_game" or "minimal" folders, copy one, rename the folder, put it under .minetest/games, and edit the game.conf (inside the folder) to specify a different name. Then replace the textures in the mods. It should then show up alongside minetest and minimal when you create a world.

Thanks folks.

I now have a couple different worlds with completely different "looks" to play in.
