Q Which Runs Better - Fullscreen or Windowed

Does playing in fullscreen mode allow the computer/video card focus more resources on Minetest for smoother gameplay or is the opposite true: a small window makes for smoother gameplay?

Testing with the same world, same clouds-trees-lighting-water settings, default textures, no mods...

When playing in fullscreen mode (fullscreen = 1) I'm not able to see the FPS so I'm not able to easily compare it to the FPS of a windowed mode.

Experimenting with a couple different screen sizes, FPS jumps around too much. Just when I think the range is 20FPS (+/-5) while flying around, it shoots up over 35FPS whether I'm in 640x480 or 1920x1080.

Maybe FPS isn't a good metric...

What other ways are there to study the performance results of various settings and tweaks?

"Why fuss with these little details anyway?", you might ask.

Because I'm trying to optimize my settings and maybe... juuust maybe, along the way, I'll manage to learn a little more about how Minetest works. ;)

Thanks.

Windowed is better, less lag. Full screen is a bit to big for me so i play in windowed.

Fullscreen runs better, especially on Linux, since your desktop environment is not "rendered", although there will be more pixels to render.

I personally prefer a maximized window, so i can switch fokus easily to other windows.

I like playing in fullscreen so I can sit back at a distance and put my feet up. In windowed mode Minetest does OK, but my old computer complains if I try to run Minetest along with too many other programs at the same time.

Thanks for the info on both Minetest and Linux.
