Where would be the best place to start learning Lua? I understand C or C++ Would be way too hard for someone of my skill, but I would love to make my own mods and develop on the engine if I get good enough

I dual boot windows 7/ Ubuntu, I use Ubuntu about 90% of the time though.

Learning LUA for Minetest in 3 simple steps:

1) search the forums for modding tutorial, this will give you the very basics

2) read the code in the mods you like playing, this will give you a basic understanding of lua syntax

3) try to write your own mod, start with something simple like your own Node with a simple ABM.

like Cornernote said it is always important to start with something simple. For example my Decoplants mod:

my 1st mod was craft guide

If that was easy to make, I applaud Pilzadam and jeija for making their mods.
