Server Connection Timed Out

by fgr » Mon Oct 08, 2012 20:30

Hello,

i have a question to the minetest cracks on here ... i have built up server to play around with it. So far, so good ... now i have every time i restart the server for maintenance or whatever - the problem of time outs if i connect to the server.

I did the following to test what the cause might be ...

clearing the cache folder to reload all cached items from the server. This takes a long long time... even i am connected to a 1GB cable. So what could be the cause of this problem?

Any help would be much appreciated....

thanks

I am running 0.4.3 (Server) and also Ubuntu and Windows Clients.

People connect and waiting for content to be downloaded ... the system cpu spikes (server side) and the downloading process is really slow and thats not a connection relatet issue...

I think the main reason no-one replied is because you are going way too in depth. Say things in a simple way and people will be able to help.

P.S. I have no idea what you're talking about

Well, when you restart the server users have to reconnect. What I do is just tell them I'm going to restart through the ingame chat.

yep, pretty much.

they should also get an automatic message in chat when the server shuts down.

LOL ... okay guys ... i guess this gets tooo off topic ... The server is not restarting while people on the machine, except there is a reason which will be announce on the server before doing that.

BTW: The server announces the shutting down very well before all clients drops.

I found something other which may help. If something is tuned to the server config file and the server restart after the changes, the problem of timeout for connecting clients can be reproduced. It looks like that the whole database get scrambled before any user can logon and download the meta data. It's only a feeling .... Any ideas about this?
