Rivers and terrain realism

by Neuromancer » Mon Oct 15, 2012 01:47

One thing that I find when playing Minecraft using Misa's texture pack is that the terrain is more realistic than Minetest in some ways. For example, there are rivers. There are also a lot more long grasses growing on the ground. What also helps is dirty/brownish water mixed in with blue water, and some browny green leaves, and different kinds of bark (birch). These things seem small, and wouldn't cost much in processing power, but just make the world seem much more real and polished. However all the vines hanging from the trees seem sort of fake.

I think minecraft is just using different textures. A very simple solution to bring much more life into the game. We totally need that.

I'm gonna pick this post apart. Been a while since i've done this to any post, so this will be fun. :3

For example, there are rivers.

Yeah. So? IMO minecraft has TOO MANY rivers crisscrossing the place. But i see your point. Also, it would be lovely to have water at varying heights. Waterfalls, too. :3

There are also a lot more long grasses growing on the ground.

Yeah, these give you seeds. I'm surprised farming mod hasnt used this yet, rather than plowing the ground and finding seeds from nothing.

yeah i dont see this happening anytime soon.

However all the vines hanging from the trees seem sort of fake.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who thinks this.
Meow.

That is all.

I changed the farming mod so weed gives seeds. I might include it into the survival game I'm planing to release.
