FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

Can someone help me with GIMP setup? I find it impossible to use it with default settings.
I need advise (or how-to) about one question - " Is it possible to have only one window, with tabbed projects and attaching toolbars?" Just like Photoshop :)

P.s. Please share your GIMP setup with screens and how-to's !

Make sure you go to "Window" menu then check "Single window mode". It's awesome. :D

When i switch back and forth i seem to lose toolbars :p GIMP used to be single-window mode only, those were the days :-)
