PostPosted: Fri Nov 23, 2012 20:13

I have made a working website design for minetest

[h]View It Now![/h]

Image

GitHub

Features
  • Has an appropriate Minetest-related design
  • Supports PunBB (login/logout at top right of every page)
  • Supports Minetest Extensions (made by me)
  • Supports Avatar Selection (made by me for PilzAdam's mod)

Comments would be appreciated

Looks good. A pic at sunrise/sunset would be cool.

Please can you say why?

I posted this topic not for +1 and -1, but for constructive criticisms, so i can make it the best it can be.

Thank you

A list of my impressions:
  • The website seems to be cut off at the bottom
  • The links at the top are too small
  • There shouldnt be a tutorial but a gameplay video in the main site
  • The download page looks ugly; all the additional texts from the current site are missing
  • The GitHub link is incorrect
  • There are no links in the contribute section
  • The dev-wiki link is broken
  • You cant see if links point to a external page or not
  • When you click on "Contribute" the "Forum" link is renamde to "Community"
  • "Games" is the wrong name for the extentions section
  • The extentions forum is not integrated into the page (e.g. the "Index of Entries" link seems to be missplaced; the welcome message is at the bottom)
  • The "t" of Minetest in the header is cut of
  • If I click on "About" in the "Games" section I get a "Fatal error" site
  • The font and size of "Minetest" in the header changes when I switch the sections
  • The "Walk around, dig and build in an infinite voxel world" is cut off at the bottom and I cant read it becauses the background is too dark
  • There is no link to the wiki at minetest.com

Thank you for your input. Most of these points are simple things.

  • (done) The website seems to be cut off at the bottom - there is no footer yet, if that is what you mean
  • (done) The links at the top are too small - thank you, i will make them bigger
  • There shouldnt be a tutorial but a gameplay video in the main site - there is no good gameplay video avaliable. I chose one to hold that place before I create one
  • (done) The download page looks ugly; all the additional texts from the current site are missing - I will fix that
  • (done) The GitHub link is incorrect - I know, the contribute page is a dummy
  • (done) There are no links in the contribute section - I know, the contribute page is a dummy
  • (done) The dev-wiki link is broken - it would work if it was hosted on minetest.net
  • You cant see if links point to a external page or not - I will fix this, not sure whether using an icon or a different color
  • (done) When you click on "Contribute" the "Forum" link is renamde to "Community" - I know, the contribute page is a dummy
  • (done) "Games" is the wrong name for the extentions section - what should it be called? (it is actually "Game Content")
  • (done) The extentions forum is not integrated into the page (e.g. the "Index of Entries" link seems to be missplaced; the welcome message is at the bottom) - I know, it is a dummy and i have yet to add margins
  • (done) The "t" of Minetest in the header is cut of - I did not notice that, it must be browser dependant. I have changed the font. does it work now?
  • (done) If I click on "About" in the "Games" section I get a "Fatal error" site - I am aware, i have not fixed that yet
  • (done) The font and size of "Minetest" in the header changes when I switch the sections - this is because the contribute page is a dummy
  • The "Walk around, dig and build in an infinite voxel world" is cut off at the bottom and I cant read it becauses the background is too dark - I was editing it live at that point (fixed now) I am aware of contrast issues, a better background or font color will be used
  • (done) There is no link to the wiki at minetest.com - I was planning to add that soon

Done. I have also made the download page more user friendly, by making a script that auto detects the OS.

FORUM

The forum is now part of the design, it has been integrated as part of the theme.

The user can change the background of the site by going to profile -> settings

I have done quite a lot more, including a download button on the homepage, forum design and general fixes

I use NoScript in my Firefox.
If I allow the script(s) from bugs3.com the whole page is moved up a bit so I cant see the background above the header.
If I dissalow the script(s) the "Download Latest" thing in the main page isnt a link, so I cant click it.

IMO it looks better with the little gap at the top.
