FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

Hi there guys,

Just registered and glad to be a part of this forum. I did not find any introduction section, so I'll post in General.

I tried Minecraft and it was hell of a lag with the default settings. The Java thing seems really not a good idea for Minecraft.
So i tried out Minetest, and was surprised to see no lags at all with the default settings.

1. Does minetest have survival mode with mobs?
2. The main blog for minetest (www.c55.me/blog) seems down. Is this only me?
3. Also I would love to have a simple survival and crafting guide for a newbie like me. If there is one, please let me know.

Overall, i like the speeds and potential of Minetest. I know a bit of PHP, and I think I will learn C++ so that sometime in future I could contribute to Minetest.

Welcome!!! Yes there is survival and there is a mobs mod, bones mod, traps mod and armor for pvp and survival. There is also an in game craft guide mod as well as a Wiki which helps with basic minetest stuff. If you do want to create mods there are many moddinghelpers on the forums. there isnt built-in mobs, but there are mob mods...the crafting is the same as minecrafts crafting, but there are some things that arent in minetest by default, like boats, redstone (here its mesecons) etc.

If you like minecraft, then DokuCraft.
Comics, then Minetoon.
