Building tips

Hello,
I decided to create a topic containing some of my building tips, here is what i have.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. When creating a roof for your house, instead of using wooden/brick/cobble/sandstone/stone/glass blocks use slabs, this makes the roof look more modern and creative.
2. When creating a farm (from any mods to do with farming) try building one inside your house! this will improve decoration as well as make a simple farm
3. Be sure to decorate your house! Some mods like: Homedecor 3Dforniture and many others can help make your house look fun.
4. If your the creative type (like me) you could build some secret areas using passages and hidden levers/switches/buttons (from mesecons) They don't have much use in singleplayer but they are fun.
5. If you are using a mobs mod be sure to put water around your house, In Simple Mobs the monsters die in water
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are many other building tips, if you want you can also post some building tips of your own!
Have fun! (and keep on building)

But decorations with cubes are a lot better and would fit the voxel style.

Have any of you ever seen RPG Maker 2? Its dungeon and building editors provide the kind of look I want my Minetest buildings to have. Mods like 3Dfurniture and homedecor have their object models made out of either full cubes or a number of smaller ones. I like cubes because they are fun and easy to build with.

Can you provide a few screenshots?

As far as decoration goes - it ought to be there. Weather you decorate your house with full blocks or with homedecor/3dforniture things depends on personal preference. If you go for full blocks, you have to build your house in a larger scale in order for it to work out. One of the strength of Minetest is IMHO that it allows things like furniture.

The most important thing is that the building is a good, detailed one that is good to look at and not just a huge boring box of wood or cobble. The more (fitting) details there are (be it full blocks or nodeboxes), the better the house. It annoys me if there is a house that consists entirely of a wooden box, with wooden stairs on top (not even extending a bit over the wall), a door, no windows - and that's it. Except for the sign on the front that says "for sale". I wonder if these people hope that someone bys the house just to detonate it with some TNT.

I built a castle in singleplayer Sokomine: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/102401091/screenshot_1007687203.png
I think it is very imaginative and creational. The mesecons machine at the front is the gate, it is opened and closed with the 2 switches.

There are many different building styles. You could make a wiki describing each type... maybe not
