FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

Brand new to this game, never played minecraft, and I just spent hours mining and building my first big castlelike place. Fell off my roof while constructing it and died :( The game respawned me at a random location and now I can't find my way back... even in fly and fast mode I can't find it... Any help? Or just call it a loss. Anything would be appreciated at this point, I was kinda proud of my first creation :D Thanks

You always spawn near the origin of the map. So if you can remember how you walked the first time to your castle you can find it pretty easily.

Press the F5 key once.

Left top of the minetest screen, under the word Minetest 0.4.4-d1, you now see something like this:
(-809, 17,5, 58,7)

0,0,0 is the center of the world

Those are your coordinates.
-809 = left/west from the center (+809 would be right/east from the center)
17,5 = above the 0-level (above the ground/in the air) (-17,5 = under the 0-level (underground, in the water)
357 = forward/north from the center (-357 would be backwards/south from the center)

For now try to go to 0,0,0 using the changes in those coordinates. Then start making circles around it bigger and bigger. You'll might find your castle somewhere in the area. Unless you really wandered off very far.

also you could build a really high tower near it.

Or you could use a sethome mod.

Or the map mod. And welcome to minetest :)

or set the static spawnpoint in your conf to the castle area and not even bother having to install any mods

Or install the Beds Mod and hit the sack. You respawn where you last "slept"!

Or install the compass mod. It directs to 0/0/0 or the sethome-mod-position or the bed-position.
