Alright in the minecraft forums you can put a picture in your signature to advertise texture packs and I'm wondering why we can't do that here

Since the admin don't allow it.. and this not a vBulletin it a PunBB though, some PunBB allow it.

Because images in signatures clutter up the forums. I've seen some forums where the signatures occupy more than the actual posts (due partly to "me too" kinds of responses).

No, signatures help people advertise their things.

What if we had a 1 image size limit for signatures? Wouldn't be too cluttered.

Then I could make it 7 pixels wide, and 12000 vertical. That sill would clutter forum.

maybe limit it to thread width, and 128 down.

(using css: max-width:100% and max-height:128px;)

Resizing isn't a good idea, IMO.
But what keeping us from checking not only size but resolution also? Say, not bigger then 128*500 (too huge already) and 20-30 Kb? (Or how much? )

Well, if you are looking for texture packs you go to the Texture Packs forum and dont look at random signatures.

It's sort of like for advertising... and yes, I totally agree with the idea!

2.) php: resize to default values X Y (when uploading your signature)
