FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

Hi all,

I just started a couple days ago. My first test of the game, I could get apples pretty much everywhere there were trees.
Now, I am starting to play "for real" in a new world, and I can't find a single apple. I have been flying through and above forests and no apple anywhere.
Did I miss something?
I wanted to load some before going on a mining expedition deep down

Apples only grow on trees grown from saplings. You can get saplings by digging leaves (or by letting them decay when no tree block is around).
