minetest problem on Windows XP

by legumev » Fri Mar 01, 2013 18:42

I just installed a new 0.4.4 release of Minetest on an XP notebook. When I open the program, it keeps blinking with windows security alert and and the log shows "failed to generate test shaders".

Advice welcome!

Go to the settings page, and disable shaders.

Also, I use windows XP too, Can you tell me if the block icons are all messed up?

OK, Thanks, the shaders message is gone, but I still can't play because it keeps blinking with the windows security warning: please someone tell me how to stop this.

Also, the little I can see looks very different colors than on the W7 laptop.

If its blinking the security warning, just hit esc and hit unblock. Then it should work.

I managed to stop the blinking by disconnecting all network connection.

There remains a big problem: the world is all reddish.

I will try a few other builds to see if one works better.

Turn off shaders to fix the red textures.

Thanks Vanessa, I did and the colors came ok, but the netbook is really too slow for this game.

Also, like Traxie said, the blocs in inventory are all mixed up: wood looks like blue wool, leaves look like lava etc...

Darn, I hoped I was the only one with that problem.

Darn. Your item icons will be correct, but your block icons will always be one-block off, and sometimes invisible. You just have to deal with it, like I do.

I run WinXP as well.

All you have to do is hover over the item to get the name..
You can *try* adding this to minetest.conf, but it only sometimes works for me, and usually only in singleplayer.

width=1024
height=768
fullscreen=1

where width and height are the width and height of your screen resolution.
