I want to change the way my character looks, and I found the file, but I need help knowing what is what in the image. It looks like someone got the player and smashed them into little pieces. Can someone help?

... That is what the character looks like, from a source point of view.

What you should do, if you want to know what the character looks like is open another instance of minetest, log into your local server, and stand in front. If you want to change what the character looks like, consider the skins mod. You can also use this tool to create minetest compatible skins.

EDIT:
To run a second client, go to the multiplayer tab of your first client and leave the address blank. Fill in the name as singleplayer. Start it up! Then, open a second client (from a different folder), go to multiplayer, and put in this address: 127.0.0.1 - and then add whatever name you like.

I know that the image is all the pieces squeezed into a smaller space, and I know what the default player looks like, but I need to know what parts of the image correspond to the different parts of your character.

If you want to do it the hard way (by editing the image file directly as opposed to using a program as suggested by tinoesroho), this image will help you:

Thanks! I figured out some of them (like the front of the head and stuff) but I had no clue which part of the leg (and arm) was which. But what is the thing that says "FOR MT" mean? (I know MT means minetest)

I like the website to make your own skins, and even though I like to edit stuff by had more, it is good for testing the stuff I make. the only problem is that you have to move the head graphics over to the right and flip over the bottom of the head to make it work on there.

You don't need the "FOR MT" part, it's just added on the default skin for fun. :P

So deleting it will not affect how your player looks or anything?

No, it won't.

OK, good. I wish someone would make a mirror mod that lets you see yourself easily.
